BSO College Connector Job Description Employer: Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Supervisor: Derek A. Bethesda, MD 20152 Term: September 2013 – May 2014 Compensation: Complementary BSO Student Select membership and college credit, if desired Participating Schools: Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola University, MICA, Morgan State University, Peabody Institute, Towson University, UMBC, University of Baltimore; American University, Catholic University of America, Georgetown University, University of Maryland College Park INTRODUCTION The BSO presents nearly 130 concerts throughout the season across a diverse range of series including Off the Cuff, Classical, Family, SuperPops and mid-week education concerts serving public, private schools and home-school students in Baltimore City, Baltimore, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Howard counties. The orchestra has recently begun an initiative to reach more college students by introducing a BSO Student Select program, which provides college students with an opportunity to attend unlimited world-class orchestral concerts for one low price. Another component of this initiative is the BSO College Connector program, which aims to promote BSO concerts to local campuses through student involvement. RESPONSIBILITIES The College Connector’s duties will include, but are not limited to: • Attend four College Connector meetings (two per semester) at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall or the Music Center at Strathmore • Represent the BSO during at least one campus activity fair or other campus event • Distribute promotional materials around campus • Assist in promoting the BSO via email, social media and word of mouth • Assist with at least two BSO College Night events throughout the season The BSO will periodically send marketing materials to each College Connector, via both paper mail and email. College Connectors will then share these materials with their campus community—music classes, friends, clubs, organizations—any group that may have a connection with upcoming concerts. QUALIFICATIONS Candidates should have an interest in gaining valuable and direct experience in grassroots marketing for a major performing arts organization and be reliable and committed to the program. College students at the sophomore, junior, and senior levels in any major with a passion for attending music concerts are welcome to apply. Students can receive academic credit for being a BSO College Connector. The BSO will work with you to meet your school’s credit requirements, but you will be ultimately responsible for these arrangements. Candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to Derek A.
