National Network of Depression Centers—videography/journalism

Position: Freelance Videographer/Producer
The National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC) is looking for freelance student and professional videographers and video journalists in the Baltimore, MD, area to cover mental health related news. Videographers/video journalists would be responsible for shooting, producing, and editing web ready videos for use on our web sites and social networking sites. Publication of videos will take place online, and related content will be included in an accompanying print magazine circulated to member mental health centers around the country. Junior, senior or graduate students and/or alumni with a background in journalism as well as video and film production are preferred. Compensation will be on a per-video basis. Writers will initially be assigned stories, but may eventually be given the opportunity to generate their own ideas. Applicants must have access to (your own) equipment. No videography training will be offered; hence, inexperienced candidates need not apply.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Conduct and film interviews
• Create 1.5-5 minute videos
• Report on and cover news and events at member institutions as assigned
• Gather b-roll and edit the footage into completed packages
• Write scripts for videos
• Research related projects
• Coordinate with area NNDC writers and journalists when necessary
• Coordinate with the NNDC editorial staff
• Demonstrated ability to conceive a story

Necessary Qualifications:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Photography, film, photojournalism and/or video journalism experience
• Video editing experience and access to video editing software
• Two years or more towards a degree in English, film, communications, journalism, or related field
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work under tight deadlines, and work well under pressure
• Appropriate planning, organizational, and time management skills
• Ability to work closely with internal and external contacts in a professional manner
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maximum collaboration
• Willingness to take both initiative and direction
• Self-discipline, adherence to deadlines

Desired but not required:
Academic background in science, medicine, and/or psychology
• Academic background in science, medicine, and/or psychology
• Ability to write accompanying stories for video segments

The NNDC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating the progress of mood disorder research, treatment, and education by providing resources and collaborative opportunities to depression centers and academic medical institutions across the country.
